It was a day for celebration at Lynbrook High School. 1st semester finals were completed and all three Boys Basketball teams brought home victories in their games hosted in the Lynbrook Gym.
For the freshmen it was business as usual. Coach Ajay Singh's squad rolled over visiting Mountain View in the opening game, crushing the Spartans in the first half - with 17-3 and 12-7 quarters. While Coach would rotate his lineup as the game went on, the slaughter kept right on going - the Vikes posting two more lopsided quarters 13-6 and 13-2. The final 55-18 score had ten different Viking players put points on the board for Lynbrook - a true share-the-wealth game. "Straws" Jaiswal led the Vikings with ten points.
In the JV game, one night after a crushing loss to extend their winless streak, the Vikes tore open the game in the first few minutes and created a hole so deep for the visiting Oak Grove Eagles that they could never recover. Led by "Wrong" Rong's 11 points, all of which came in the 1st quarter, the Vikes crushed the Eagles 27-3 in the 1st, and would zero the Eagles in the 3rd quarter, ultimately cruising to a 56-19 win that featured extensive playing time for the Viking bench. Ten of twelve players would score, with "The Jain Train" adding ten points, and Kevin "I sleep in a sleeping bag" Li dropped nine on the night. The Vikes first victory comes after some devastatingly close games as of late and provided a critical morale boost for the team. "Often the hardest win is the first one when you get in a slump," Coach Bale said after the game, "It's a game of confidence. More mental that folks want to believe."
In what Varsity Head Coach Rick Appler would describe as a "quicksand" game. The Vikes took on an Oak Grove roster that was largely new from the squad that defeated them last year in a high scoring matchup at Oak Grove. In what ended up being a back-and-forth affair, the Eagles held a 44-43 lead with only minutes left in the game, but the Vikes would put the game away, scoring the last 11 points, leaving the Eagles shocked with the disappearance of the close game. Vikings win 54-44, closing out the 3-win night. All three teams will play at Jefferson High school in a true tripleheader on December 27th.
In attendance this evening were a slew of Cupertino High School's Finest Alums including Lynbrook Frosh Basketball Coach Ajay Singh, Lynbrook Football Coach and Teacher Joseph Luo, as well as perennial CCS Assistant Coach of the Year, Lynbrook Basketball Coach Kevin Lew. In addition, former Lynbrook ballers Breezy, Dru Down, Trey, and Free the Sri were on hand to cheer on the Vikings.
