The boys basketball season came to a close Friday night with a playoff loss to visiting
Sobrato in a div. 2 first-round contest. The Vikings came into the game as the #10 seeded team while Sobrato was unseeded (a designation for the 13-16 teams). Lynbrook, due to their higher seed, was host, but it might as well been an away game when it came to the fans. The Bulldog crowd dominated the light Viking crowd, erupting in cheers and support whenever Sobrato scored or came up clutch on defense.

Lynbrook had taken the early lead off two three point makes in the first quarter by Judah "Chainz" Marks, then continued to hold a lead throughout much of the first half. Sobrato made a small run at the end of the first half to cut the lead to five and it was 28-23 at the break.

The Bulldogs came out hot in the third quarter and quickly caught up to the Vikings. The score was all even at 33, and 39. Down 45-42, the Vikes hit a three to tie it back up at 45. Much to the delight of the crowd, Sobrato immediately came down the court and calmly launched a three which swished through, once again giving the Bulldogs the lead.

On the following possession, Sobrato took advantage of a calamitous error on Lynbrook's part as the Viking zone was misrun leaving a hole the size of Manhattan open near the hoop. One quick pass and the lead was now five points. A subsequent steal sealed the game, and the Bulldogs advanced to play Oak Grove with a 53-48 win. That win powered by drive and kick threes that lynbrook repeatedly failed to stop.

The Vikings, who shot only 3/10 from the free throw line, were left to wonder "what if?"
