Boys Frosh Wins on the Road

BALL IS LIFE

A Saturday matchup was just what the doctor ordered for the Freshman Boys Basketball team who limped in from a poor defensive game against Menlo on Friday. Reversing the trend, an adjusted starting lineup played strong throughout forcing host Wilcox into frustrating shots and turnovers.

The Vikes missed several early opportunities with rim-out shots and close misses, but stayed right with the Chargers during the first five minutes of the game. The Vikes went into a five-out offense forcing all Wilcox players to play on the perimeter, and Owen Huang, playing the post position was able to leverage this into two key three pointers in the first quarter. As the shots starting falling, the Vikes took the lead for good, stretching the first quarter score to 20-10. The halftime score was little different at 30-22. In the third quarter, the Vikes continued their strong defense and held the Chargers to only seven points. By the fourth quarter, Lynbrook really starting rolling and buried Wilcox with an assortment of layups, treys, and putbacks.

Key contributors to the 55-36 win were Tyler Li who scored 19 points, Rishi Dommeti who scored 12, and Kevin Li who added 8 points. The Frosh Vikes break for a week before playing at Capuchino on January 27th.

JV and Varsity continue league play this upcoming week with rematches against Saratoga and Homestead - both victories for Varsity the first time around and crucially needed wins to secure playoff eligibility.
