Thursday night's matchup against the Cupertino Pioneers left the fans in the stands with two of the most lopsided affairs in either schools' boys basketball contests this season.

In the first game, the Lynbrook JV shot out like a canon at the start of the game and jumped to a 5-0 lead. They kept the scoring up, leading at the end of the first quarter 19-11. By half, they had completely swamped the Pioneers, now up 30-15. With a minute to go in the third quarter, the Vikes had slightly extended the lead to 38-20, but a three point by Charlie Loper, following by a steal and basket by Loper as well, ballooned the lead to 43-20.

With slightly more than five and half minutes in the 4th quarter, Cupertino became flipped on which hoop they were defending and Jerry Sun took a long outlet pass and scored an uncontested layup. At that point the route was on and over the last five minutes, the Vikes would outscore the Pioneers 10-3, ending the game with a 57-27 final.

In the Varsity matchup, the Pioneers and Vikes had a quiet first two minutes, but following a Cupertino timeout with the score 3-2 Pioneers, Coach Craig Ellegood seemingly gave the order to commence destruction of Lynbrook. The Pioneers then scored 13 unanswered points. Unsatisfied with a Lynbrook basket, Cupertino called another timeout and then erupted for a 21-7 run to close out the half.

The second half was little better, with the Vikings buckling under heavy defensive pressure, and unable to make a run when the Tino benchwarmers made their way into the game. Final score - Cupertino 64, Lynbrook 32. With the loss, the Vikings now have dropped four in a row, three of those league contests, all of which they've lost by double-digits. Cupertino improved to 5-0 in league play and remains two games ahead in the El Camino standings.

The Vikes look to rebound on Tuesday with their 2nd matchup against Saratoga. The Vikes won the first matchup at Lynbrook on January 3rd by a score of 61-52.
