Poor Shooting Dooms Varsity and Frosh in Saturday Matchups

BALL IS LIFE

Shooting worries were certainly on the minds of the coaches at Lynbrook High School on Saturday as both the Freshman and Varsity teams shot poorly from the outside in their respective matchups. Varsity took on Leigh High School in the Monta Vista Shootout, while the Freshman traveled to Willow Glen for their 2nd matchup of the year against the Rams.

In the Varsity game, the Vikes couldn't buy a bucket from beyond the arc and were challenged at the rim by squad of Longhorn shot blockers. Early it was tied up at 8, but Leigh then went on a run by attacking the basket and made the score 20-8. Up big at halftime, Leigh was able to withstand a small rally by the Vikes in the 2nd half, but Lynbrook could not close the gap to even ten at any point. With some key players playing only limited minutes, it was up to reserves in many cases to provide the minutes for the Vikings. Leigh won 59-44.

At Willow Glen, the Freshman went as cold as the gym, and made only a single three point shot the entire game. Meanwhile, the Rams hit seven treys and blew open a moderate lead into a massive one in the third quarter. The lifeless Vikes also didn't help their cause by shooting 5/16 from the free-throw line in one of the worst shooting days of the season. Coming on the back of two wins, the loss was depressing, considering the Vikes fell to WG early in the year by only three points. The Freshmen continue their jammed schedule by playing three more games this upcoming week.
