In El Camino League play on Thursday night, Lynbrook met Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. In the Varsity matchup, both teams saw themselves locked into a low scoring defensive battle during the first half which led to the Firebirds taking an 18-15 lead into halftime. While Fremont came out of the break with energy, the Vikes looked tired on the floor and were swept away in the 3rd quarter as Fremont outscored Lynbrook 20-10. Both teams played even in the 4th, and the Firebirds took the win 49-36, ending the unbeaten league streak of wins for the Vikes at 3 games. At 3-1, they now sit in 2nd place in league.

The 36 points scored by Lynbrook was their second lowest offensive effort on the season. The only lower result was when the Vikes were held to 32 points by Buchanan of Clovis back on December 7th. The Vikes will play their final non-league contest against Leigh High School on Saturday at Monta Vista High School.

Leading up to the Varsity game, the JV contest also shaped up to be a close matchup. Both teams played it close for the first 24 minutes, but the story was different in the last quarter. Lynbrook stayed focused and hit some key baskets following a tie score while the Firebirds missed a score of free throw attempts after getting to the line several times. The difference was all Lynbrook needed as they held on for a 56-48 win. The Vikes improve to 3-1 in league play and now have two wins in a row. The JV team returns to the court next week against Monta Vista, Cupertino, and MacDonald.
