Ball Don't Lie! El Camino League Play Opens with 2 Wins for Varsity Boys Basketball

BALL IS LIFE

Baller University | 1/8/2024

Boys Basketball is loving 2024. So far, the year has offered up two league games, and Varsity has captured wins in both contests. In the league opener, Varsity played a close back and forth game with Saratoga but prevailed by hitting free throws down the stretch for a 61-52 victory. In their triumph over the Falcons, the Vikes hit nine treys... including some clutch late threes by "Chainz" and "Lil Puddle."

Two days later, the Vikes went on the road to Homestead where they battled a deeeeeep Homestead team through the first quarter, but opened up a sizeable lead in the 2nd quarter, going into the half up double digits. The lead was largely maintained through the 3rd quarter but the Mustangs fought back in the 4th quarter to close the lead to three points at one point. Leading the Vikes was the "D.O.C." who scored through the game and nailed late free throws to ice the game. The Vikes won 61-57. Varsity will play league games against Santa Clara and Fremont this week, while also playing their final non-league game against Leigh on Saturday at Monta Vista High School.

In other basketball news, the JV team rolled to a 17-point victory against Saratoga, powered by a strong second half. Against Homestead, the Vikes fell behind early, and after losing a player to a knee injury, only had a single bench player available. DECA club was responsible for some players being away and abandoning the team. The Vikes fell to the Mustangs by double digits despite a late spirited run in the 4th quarter. JV takes on Santa Clara and Fremont this week.

The freshman, also down to a minimal number of eligible players, lost this past week to a disciplined and balanced Burlingame squad, leaving the Frosh Vikes with their fifth consecutive loss. The freshman have four non-league games this week against Menlo, Emerald, Sobrato and Willow Glen.
