The annual Boys Basketball Tournament is underway after an opening day of play. As has been tradition in recent years, Prospect and Homestead led off the tournament. Prospect rode a strong first half to a 57-44 victory over an injury hit Homestead roster. In the second game, Gunn scored early and often on an undersized Silver Creek squad, coming out victorious with a 66-39 win. For the third game of the day, American and Los Altos had the closest contest of the four games with a very competitive battle of the Eagles. American edged out Los Altos 43-38. In the final matchup of the day another injury depleted team, host Lynbrook, took on undefeated Buchanan. Buchanan looks to be the clear favorite in the Winter Classic, routing the Vikes 70-31. Games continue Friday after kicking off with Homestead and Silver Creek at 3:30, Los Altos and Lynbrook at 5:00, Prospect and Gunn at 6:30, and American and Buchanan at 8:00 PM.
